The Team

Your paragraph text (10).png

Since 1979, the Blackwood Marathon Relay has been more than just a relay - it’s been a rite of passage, a gathering of generations and a symbol of what’s possible when community and endurance come together.

But like many grassroots events, the Blackwood Marathon is facing real challenges. Rising costs and declining participation have placed its future at risk. Without renewed support through participation, volunteering, and community backing, this iconic tradition may not make it to its 50th year and beyond.

That’s where you come in.

Your voice, your story, your recommendation matters.
Word of mouth is powerful. By sharing what the event means to you, whether you’ve raced, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines, you can help inspire others to get involved and keep this uniquely Western Australian tradition alive.

Explore the memories, milestones and moments from the past 45+ years and help us grow the collection.

We’re honouring the people who’ve shaped this event - competitors, volunteers, families, and supporters - by sharing their stories.

Clive

In 1980, Clive took on his first Blackwood Marathon Relay. Since then, he’s completed 25 consecutive Ironman events (yes, including the horse leg!), built teams, rallied friends, and kept the tradition alive - even while undergoing cancer treatment.

For Clive, the Marathon has never been just a race. It’s about friendships, fitness, family and a community coming together, year after year, to share in something truly special.
